Recently I watched The Sound of Music for the first time….ever. The funny thing is, even though I hadn’t seen the movie, I could sing every song. Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens….These are a few of my favorite things.

What a delightful song. It made me think of one of my favorite verses—one that I go to when life seems to go haywire. Philippians 4:8-9, ‘the whatever is’ verse….says to think on these things.
“And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.”
I love this because even though things may seem dark, there is always a gem in the middle of the garbage. And focusing on the ‘whatevers’ brings peace that is unexplained.

Julie Andrews is wonderful. She is someone I would love to sit with over a cup of tea and a plate of scones. So in honor of Julie Andrews, The Sound of Music, and this song that makes me smile.

Isn’t it amazing that we look to the simple things of life when we “interpret” Phil. 4:8,9
Pure things, like a porch chair, coffee in the sun……
Thank you for reminding us to keep our hearts and minds focused on Him. Love Mom
Mom, yes, that and the positive things that give us peace and joy-despite whatever things look like. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
I share many of your favorite things as my own, Jeanne. Others I have are
-listening to the ocean’s song
-feeling the embrace of a breeze
-turning out a perfect pie or cake and then sharing it
-removing clutter and putting in order closets and drawers
-discovering flowers I’ve not known before
-watching plants emerge new from earth that didn’t reveal their coming birth
-laughter and play of toddlers
-roses in the kitchen that came from my garden
I love your list, Pat. Those could easily be my favorite things too. Especially the ocean’s song. Thanks for joining the conversation today
Jeanne, I too love your list! Here are some of mine.
