Where Do We Go for Help? Psalm 146:5-6

where do I go for help

Where Do We Go For Help?

When life’s situations are out of our control…when life gets crazy, where do we go for help?  [Tweet This] In our last post we saw that Psalm 146:4 warns us against putting our trust in leaders and people around us.

When life is busy you can still pause and spend time with the Lord. One verse can give you plenty to ponder. That’s the reason I and sharing Psalm 146 a verse at a time. Today we pick up in Psalm 146:5-6. Okay, so today we look at two verses.

where do we go for help

Psalm 146:5

How blessed is he whose help is in the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God;

God is our Help and Our Hope [Tweet This]

Instead of trusting in mortal man or princes (as we saw in Psalm 146:4), happy are those who trust in God for their help and hope. We are blessed because:

where do we go for help

He will fight for us

He will not fail us
He will not leave us undefended
He will keep His promises

God is the source of our hope. We don’t trust in humans, governments or offices of power. He is our Provider and Protector. He is our rock, fortress and strength – Our help in trouble.

When others ask, where do we go for help, we can point them to God. [Tweet This]

He is the One they need.

My help and hope must be in my Lord and my God – not in a secondhand relationship. Faith is meant to be shared but cannot be borrowed.  [Tweet This]

Our help and hope must be in our personal God not in one belonging to a friend or family member.

Psalm 146:6

[God] who made heaven and earth, the sea and all that is in them; who keeps faith forever;

where do we go for help

We exalt God who made all things by his power. He made heaven, earth and the sea as his first preparations for life.

Heaven – as the stars, sun and moon warm and light our way.
Earth – the land and the creatures that it supports.
Sea – the vast home to fish and the ecosystem there.

God always has a plan. Our God is a God of order. We see this in the creation account. He first set the habitats with perfect conditions and then filled them with life. He knows what He’s doing as He brings order to the world around us.

He is Our Best Help and Hope

God is the One we praise. He is worthy of our trust. He gives us help and offers hope because of Jesus. He created the sun, moon, stars and set the boundaries of the seas. He is able to care for the things in our world that concern us too. When we wonder where we can go for help, we only need to remember the strength of our Creator who makes all things well.

So when life seems out of control, seek the One who oversees all things. When we exhaust all possible ways to find a resolution, know that we can find hope in Him. After discovering God faithful in this, He will be the first place we go not the one we discover after we have exhausted our own resources.

How is God your help and hope today? Have your found Him faithful in the past too?
