Seven Words of Christmas, by Robert Morris: Book Suggestion & A Giveaway
This week I have a Christmas resource suggestion for you. Robert Morris‘ new book is called, Seven Words of Christmas – The Joyful Prophecies that Changed the World. These seven words can bring both focus and peace to your holidays.
Yes, the holidays are on the horizon. Are you anxious about your celebrations? I am a bit. It may be difficult to gather due to travel and quarantine restrictions. Shopping may need to be online rather than going to your favorite stores because of Covid-19 mandates or empty shelves.
I don’t like all the changes that 2020 has brought. But at the same time, I think being intentional can help us to cope with this season that is bound to look different.
Stay Focused With Seven Words This Christmas
I enjoy Advent related resources to keep me focused on Jesus. So today I’m sharing Robert Morris’ book because it’s a perfect devotional for the month of December. I like that it’s set-up for twenty-one readings, focusing on seven words in the Christmas story:
Salvation
Favor
Blessed
Guidance
Joy
Redemption
Peace
More than ever, I need to keep my focus on the blessings rather than the trials of 2020. One of my favorite scriptures to help with this is Philippians 4:6-8.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:6-7 ESV).
It reminds me not to be anxious. But instead, to pray with thanksgiving to God. Why? Because it says that if I do, peace will guard my heart and mind. Peace that’s beyond understanding and will baffle those who are watching.
Interesting that it says ‘in everything‘ not for everything. How can I pray in everything? I think the clue is in the next verse.
Interesting thing: there are words to focus on here also:
…whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things (Philippians 4:8 ESV).
No matter what I’m facing, if I can find a way to thank God for something in the midst of it, His peace will follow.

After this crazy year, I need that. There has been plenty to discourage me and lead me to fear for the future. But when I focus on these attributes, it keeps my eyes on God who promises to go with me through EVERY trial. And with the assurance that He is working everything out even when life seems murky.
I think Seven Words of Christmas can help me to do that
When I can focus on one thing, I can keep the clutter at bay.

2020 has been a challenge. A draining challenge. So I recommend this book to you. And hope as we enter the season of JOY that these daily readings will fill you rather than deplete you.
Robert Morris says this at the close of Seven Words of Christmas:
“Take a moment to quiet your mind and soul…perhaps the Spirit of God will highlight one or more of these words of Christmas that you need in your life right now:
Salvation, Favor, Blessed, Guidance, Joy, Redemption, Peace
There is never a better time than Christmas to receive the gifts Jesus came to bring you.”

Jeanne, it can’t be time for Christmas! And yet I know it is around the corner. Your thoughts are so true and challenging, “No matter what I’m facing, if I can find a way to thank God for something in the midst of it, His peace will follow.”
Thanks for your thoughts, Debbie. This year is zooming by! It won’t be long before we sit around the Thanksgiving table…and then Christmas follows. Praise and Thanks are our greatest weapons against discouragement. I have needed that this year.
Wonderful words to think on throughout the year Ms. Jeanne. Shared across social media my friend. Thank you for sharing with us this morning; helping to remind us of this most special time of year. Can’t wait!
Thanks for stopping in, J.D. and for your generous shares 🙂 I do think Christmas may look different but may we be creative in new ways to rejoice in His birth.
All of those are wonderful words we all need but from that list I would choose redemption. Redemption is the reason Jesus came and is the thread that holds all the biblical stories together. Thanks for sharing this wonderful book.
I agree about redemption, Barbara. The whole purpose of His coming 🙂 Interesting that the word that I feel like I need right now is Direction. Thank you for your thoughts today

Praise and Thanks every day to our Heavenly Father who cares more than we can even imagine. Thank you for your posts, I enjoy reading them, Seven words of Christmas is a wonderful reminder.
Thanks for stopping by, Jeanne. I agree with you 100%. This year has been a difficult one, but one thing that never changes is His love for us. And in the middle of all of the chaos, He can still bring peace.
Redemption- to think that Jesus died for me while I was yet a sinner. I am thankful for His redeeming love for me. When He said it was finished that really was a victory because He had finished what the Father sent Him to do.
Love this, Lyn. Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts. Yes, Redemption is the purpose Jesus came. Glory to His name!!
