Seeking Big Adventures: Review of Chasing Wonder – Small Steps Toward a Life of Big Adventures, by Ginger Stache – Leave a comment for a chance to win a copy.
Are you seeking big adventures? For some that might mean climbing Machu Pichu. Others may envision driving a jet ski, or traveling alone to an unfamiliar area. The opportunity might elicit a rush and desire to take the plunge, yet others might feel panic.
One thing I am discovering is life is full of opportunities…even small ones. All it takes is a bit of fearlessness, a whole lot of trust in God, and having my eyes open to the possibilities.
Maybe you’re facing a scary thing you didn’t choose. It doesn’t sound like an adventure. Instead fear is rising within you. No matter what you face, the question isn’t, Can I? It’s, Can God?

Small Steps Often Feel Huge
Never in a million years did I think I would travel to China. Not even on my seeking-adventure radar until my daughter began her adoption process. She needed a travel companion – I said yes. With that decision came many hurdles, the biggest of which was WAITING for all of the paperwork and permissions to be satisfied. It took a year but during that time I learned a lot – about the adoption process, myself, and God as He provided every step of the way.
Whether the adventure is small or bigger than we ever imagined, it begins with our willingness to say yes. And we make those decisions every day whether we realize it or not. I am discovering that God wants me to have an adventurous spirit so that He can accomplish more than I think possible.

Some adventures are chosen, while others are thrust upon us. And any change can be viewed as an adventure: A New job. A big move. New baby. A health diagnosis. New ministry. The yes means that you are trusting God for whatever is ahead and finding him faithful for your journey.
Big Adventures Blip On Your Radar
When Worthy Publishing asked me to review, Chasing Wonder, I couldn’t resist. Maybe I could learn more about adventure. Life is short and if God says He will give me abundant life (John 10:10) that might mean I need to be open to bigger possibilities.
Ginger Stache shares her adventures and seeks to impart the idea that God has big plans for each one of us. And in His unique way, He will display His glory as we travel with Him. You will enjoy the humorous stories of her travels and the things she learned along the way.
Ginger writes:
One thing I particularly like about Chasing Wonder is the questions that follow each chapter. They are thought-provoking and would make great journal prompts or discussion starters.
Are you seeking big adventures with God? Start with a copy of Ginger’s book and a BIG YES every day. Her journey will jumpstart your look at life and finding opportunities in it. I would love to hear where God leads you.

Jeanne, My “heart, mind and soul” was touched by the description of Ginger’s book. I have been the one who hangs on to the side of the boat……who clings to the rope and won’t let go. I’m not sure I was always like this, but as I get older, it is what I do or rather don’t do. I was blessed with not having terrible treatments with my cancer…..I prayed for 4 years before admitting I needed to sell my big house. In doing it…..I’ve been overly cautious about so much. You’ve been a brave soul in many huge opportunities. Thank you for allowing us to know of this one.
He is so gentle with us, isn’t He, Jan. Like Peter walking on the water, when He took his eyes off of Jesus, he was afraid. Even though the storm was already raging before he stepped out of the boat. One verse the Lord impressed on me in my own journey is that ‘perfect love casts out fear.’ When He goes with us, we can trust Him no matter what the journey looks like or where it takes us. My apologies for my delay in answering this…I just returned from nine days in Colorado and helping out while my grandson was in the hospital.
Hi Jeanne,
One of the big adventures that was as you mentioned “thrust upon” me was moving into a private practice. It was very upsetting and anger producing as I didn’t understand why it appeared that God had pulled the rug out from under me. There were many moments during that transition that I wanted to quit the profession and find something else to do. However, trusting God through the process has helped me grow and allowed me to step into more adventurous opportunities. Thanks be to God!
Victory in Jesus, Sheree. Thanks for sharing this with us. And my apologies for the delay in my reply…I just returned from nine days in Colorado and helping out while my grandson was in the hospital.
Dear Jeanne,
Your post just came at the perfect time. Thank you!
I have just had a life threatening and scary adventure thrust upon me. I have been trying to depend on the Lord to get through it, but after my surgery 2 days ago I have to wait 7-10 business days to get the full pathology report and advice on whether radiation and chemotherapy is necessary….and what my chances are…
I hate nausea, don’t know if I can do chemo or radiation… the post recovery from the surgery with hours of nausea was bad enough…
So in “Finding Wonder” it helped to see you quote not “can I?”but “can God?”
I have been thinking “can I with God who is always with me?” It helps to think “can God?” cause obviously he can do anything! He made the world, the universe, all people and even me…
I’m someone who loves fun adventures: seeing and exploring new places, other cultures and people. But this new adventure doesn’t appear fun at all….
Nevertheless my sons and daughter in love (to steal a term from you Jeanne)and other family and friends have shown love, concern and support. I am not alone. My loving God is with me too, the only wise and powerful God who can….
Praying for you, Pat. I did send you an email when I saw this…I just returned from nine days in Colorado and helping out while my grandson was in the hospital.
I would love to read Chasing Wonder. This looks like a great read!
