Did you know there is power in a pause?
The power of pause….have you ever been listening to a speaker on TV or at an event and they suddenly stop for several seconds. You edge a little closer, leaning in to hear what is coming next.
A pause can be powerful. [Tweet This]
A good speaker places those pauses at just the right spot so they can make their point stick.
I am reading The Power of Pause by Terry Hershey.
I don’t mean to review this book here, only to share some of the wonderful bits I am discovering. The title caught my attention because of the name of my ministry:
Pausing to See God Clearly
Spending an extra moment in God’s presence. Still. Waiting. Training my ear to hear what He says in prayer or through His Word. There is an anticipation of what He will say next.
I believe God is speaking all the time – we are just too busy to notice. [Tweet This]
So, a couple of things I found in Terry Hershey’s book today that touched my soul:
“We are wired to be present. We are built to honor the senses. We are created to be attentive, or literally just to be. But somewhere along the way, life chokes the music and poetry out of us.” (page xiii)
“So, enter into this…experience of pausing. Who knows? You might just find a new you–or rediscover the you who has been buried under the clutter and press of the hectic.” (page xvii)
I am already blessed by this book and I haven’t gotten past the introduction. I am expecting good things.
So I am hoping to clear through the clutter and discover more of who God has made me to be. By pausing and taking the time to be. By being present. By taking notice.
And Pausing has many benefits…
How about you? Are you up for a Pause Challenge?
I’d love to hear your thoughts,
Jeanne
