She has written a children’s Advent devotional book called, Sing a Song of Christmas. It published in September, just in time to use it during the weeks before Christmas with your family….
This week is the epitome of change.
The fall color in my area is either at peak or is now fading away to the duller browns of late fall. I’m sure if you reflect on the last few months, you’ll notice that seasons come and go. Seasons of weather and seasons of life.
Advent starts in a little over a month. It’s one of my favorite seasons of the church year for a few reasons. I think the main reason is that it culminates in Christmas Eve. I can think of nothing better.
I also like that it lasts for about a month. Not too short to savor. Not too long to tire of it. I also love the reflection and repentance that Advent brings. It’s a time to look inside and invite Jesus to clean his home, my heart. I know how much I need Him, so when Christmas comes, I eagerly await the birth of the Baby Jesus, just as children await the presents under the tree.
I enjoy singing and playing music. I also love to write. So, this past year, I was asked to write a little devotion book for children that is based on Advent and Christmas music. What a perfect project for me! I hope you might enjoy it, too. It’s a very affordable little paperback or EBook.
Here’s an excerpt:
What do we do to prepare for Christmas? We have Advent! Advent means “someone special is coming.” When we know someone special is coming to our houses, we clean to get everything ready. Then, we wait for them to arrive. In this devotion book, you’ll have lots of chances to get your heart ready for the Baby Jesus.
I write for this publisher (Creative Communications) often enough, and have written a few other little devotion books related to Lent and Advent themes. As a parochial school teacher, I try to write for children without being condescending or assuming they can’t handle spiritual matters. Many children have pretty deep thoughts about God. If we would only talk to them more, we would see and hear what Jesus calls “faith like a child.”
I invite you to look into this devotion book for your church family. Many churches buy it in bulk and provide it for their young families. The devotions are short for those wiggly little ones and their busy parents. Each one has a verse from a Christmas or Advent song. It would be really fun to read a devotion and then watch a YouTube video of the song being performed. Maybe you could even have some Advent karaoke at your house!
If your church is interested in these books, let them know that there are supplementary materials, too, like children’s sermons!
My publisher has sent me some author copies that I would be happy to giveaway. So, I’ll let Jeanne tell you how to be eligible for a drawing. And, then I’ll give one copy to three different winners.
Jeanne: Advent can be a special time–full of anticipation. I love ways to be able to emphasize Jesus over the cultural holiday. Our children look forward to presents, but how much more awesome to look forward to the BEST GIFT.
