Treasure the Quiet Moments during Your Holiday Preparations and Enter My Contest.
Thanksgiving and Christmas will be here before long…faster than we think. As much as we love the time with family, our schedule is going to ramp up with all the holiday preparations. It’s not easy to guard against being overwhelmed and to treasure the quiet moments.
We get busy with school and church events, sports games and along with normal family life, it can become chaotic.
My kids are grown so I don’t have that kind of schedule to contend with. Even so, I find that I need to treasure the quiet moments in order to prepare for the holidays. I can easily overextend without thinking about it.
Everyone needs time to ponder. [Tweet This]
Jesus made it a priority to spend time alone with His heavenly father. If He needed it, I need it more.
How do you treasure those moments of calm? Or even more valuable, how to you create them?
I’d love to hear your ideas. Is it something simple like enjoying good chocolate without interruption? Do you take walks? Do you have a hiding place where you can escape from the world for a few moments?
Here are a few things I have tried to do to lessen the pace in my holiday preparations:
- Complete my shopping before Thanksgiving so I can be free to enjoy December without the frantic pace.
- Simplify my Christmas card list.
- Plan menus ahead of time and gather ingredients over the next several weeks alleviate the burden on my grocery budget.
- Shop online to avoid crowds and empty shelves.
- Be sure to make time to include the spiritual aspects of Thanksgiving and Christmas. This may include a Thankful Hands display and Advent activities. As we give thanks and offer worship, the Lord is pleased and we are reoriented to His being central to our celebrations.

I try to remember the purpose of my preparations.
A simple celebration of the heart brings more satisfaction than a hand-wringing production of the will.
Jesus came to bring peace to the world; why would I want to miss it by stressing over little details that aren’t that important?
If I am missing peace, Jesus is the missing piece [Tweet This]
When Jesus was born in Bethlehem all those years ago, so many people missed Him. And, when He began His three year ministry on His way to the cross, people missed His identity again. You see, they envisioned something else as they waited for the Messiah to come and deliver them. They built up something in their imaginations of a warrior and warfare.
They missed Jesus because the fanfare they expected was missing.
And, it’s easy for us to miss the quiet moments of peace during our holiday preparations because of the imaginations of perfection we hope to achieve.
May this season of peace that is upon us, bring the missing piece of Jesus as you treasure the quiet moments. And may your preparations be thoughtful.
