A Look Back: What Was My Word?
It’s December and I am not sure where the year went! It’s been such a blur that I needed to look back to remember – What was my word for 2016?
For the last several years I pray as the new year approaches, asking God what He wants to do in me for the coming year. I listen intently for a word. And, then whatever I read in Scripture, sermons I hear, devotionals in my inbox, and conversations with others all point to a similar theme.

When I looked back, I had to laugh…my word was:
And what have I been doing this year?
For Little Dude
For the China trip
For each piece of red tape
The adoption journey
And though it has been maddening, I love that God saw 2016 before I did. He knew what was ahead for me. And, as I sit here waiting for travel approval from China…He knows what is ahead for me there too.

My wait will be coming to an end soon. It appears that China travel will be December 21st. My daughter Alicia and I are ready to go as soon as we get travel approval.
But I am not kidding myself…there will be more waiting:
Gotcha Day (the day Little Dude is ours)
But the wait will be worth it when Little Dude is home.
As I Look Back, I discovered:
God’s timing is not mine…but it is perfect.
God sees what I need and will provide at the right time.
Patience does indeed produce perseverance.
I won’t sugar-coat it. It has been a tough year in many ways. But the fruit is sweet as God unfolds His master plan. He has done a mighty work…in me…in Alicia…and in this adoption process.
What are you waiting for?
Has God shown you something sweet in the midst of your waiting?
I am not sure what my word will be for 2017. One word can focus our heart to what God is doing within us. Will you ask God for a word this year?
